We Build Products Like They’re Our Own

Supernovalabz is a product and engineering company for founders and teams building ambitious software products.

We believe the best products are rarely the result of product, design, engineering, and AI working as separate functions. The decisions that matter most cut across all of them: what to build, what not to build, which assumptions need to be challenged, where technology creates real leverage, and what actually needs to be true for a product to work for its users and as a business.

That is why we bring product R&D, strategy, design, engineering, and AI together in one senior team. We get involved early, challenge assumptions before they become expensive, and take responsibility for the product beyond the boundaries of any one discipline.

Our job is not simply to ship features or complete a scope of work. It is to understand the problem properly, help make better product decisions, and turn those decisions into something people choose to use and businesses can grow around.

And we stay close after launch. Because shipping the product is only the point where reality begins to test the assumptions behind it. How customers use it, where they struggle, what drives adoption, what creates value, and what we learn from the market should shape what gets built next.

We build products like they’re our own because that is the standard we would expect if they were.

Supernovalabz Story

Supernova was founded in 2018 by two tech-savvy founders who were obsessed with building software and wanted to understand what made some products succeed while others disappeared.

In the beginning, our role was relatively simple. A client would come to us with an idea, a specification, or a list of features, and we would turn it into working software. We spent those early years becoming better engineers, learning how to move quickly, solve technical problems, and ship reliably.

During that period, we built more than 128 web applications around digital commerce. Together, those products generated more than 7 million leads across core markets including the US, Canada, Europe, and Australia, and over $12 million in client revenue, with some still generating more than $120,000 MRR.

Those numbers mattered, but what interested us more was why some of those products performed significantly better than others.

The code was not always the difference.

Two products could be engineered equally well and still produce very different outcomes. One could find demand, acquire customers, generate revenue, and continue growing. Another could be technically sound and struggle almost immediately.

That raised a more important question for us: if engineering alone did not determine whether a product succeeded, what did?

At the time, our experience was much stronger in engineering than product management. We knew how to build what had been requested. What we increasingly wanted to understand was everything that happened before the request became a specification.

Was the underlying problem real? Who experienced it strongly enough to care? Was the proposed solution actually the right one? What assumptions were being treated as facts? What did the first version really need to prove? And once customers started using the product, what would make them return, pay, recommend it, and eventually allow a business to grow around it?

Those questions gradually changed the kind of company we wanted Supernova to become.

We started moving upstream.

Instead of entering only when the requirements were already decided, we became more involved in the research, strategy, customer problem, business model, and product decisions that shaped those requirements in the first place.

This was a harder role to take on. Writing code against a defined scope gives you a relatively clear measure of completion. Product decisions are less comfortable. They require judgement, incomplete information, customer evidence, commercial thinking, technical understanding, and a willingness to challenge assumptions before significant time and capital are committed.

But we came to believe that this was where much of the real leverage existed.

A strong engineering team can build almost anything. The more important question is whether it should be built at all, what version should be built first, and whether the resulting product creates enough value for customers and the business to justify everything that comes next.

As our thinking evolved, so did the products and systems we worked on.

We moved from standalone web applications into SaaS products across web and mobile, and later into AI, cloud, data, and infrastructure. Our role expanded with them, from research and product strategy through design and engineering to launch, growth, scaling, and increasingly complex technical systems.

That evolution is what shaped Supernova into a Product Studio.

Today, Supernova has two connected focuses: services and products.

Through our services, we work with founders and product teams across the lifecycle of a software business. Sometimes that means determining whether an opportunity is worth pursuing before serious investment begins. Sometimes it means turning a validated opportunity into a production-ready product. Sometimes the product already exists and the challenge becomes activation, retention, growth, scale, or the engineering systems underneath it.

The problem changes. Our underlying approach does not.

We use the same product principles, engineering disciplines, operating methods, and increasingly AI-enabled ways of working across our engagements. That matters because we do not want the knowledge created on one project to disappear when that project ends.

We want it to compound.

Every product exposes us to a different market, customer, business model, technical constraint, growth problem, or operating challenge. What we learn becomes part of the way we approach the next one. Over years, that accumulation of decisions, mistakes, patterns, tools, systems, and judgement becomes considerably more valuable than any individual technology or framework.

At the same time, we are applying those same principles to products of our own.

We think this is an important part of the model.

It is easy to advise someone to invest another month in development when it is not your capital. It is easy to recommend a feature when you will not have to acquire the customers who use it. And it is easy to talk about product-market fit, retention, pricing, and growth when someone else ultimately carries the consequences.

Building our own products puts us on the other side of those decisions.

The capital matters. The priorities matter. The customer matters. A feature that does not create value becomes a real cost. A wrong assumption creates real consequences. And every decision forces us to confront the same question our clients face: is this actually worth building?

We believe the two sides of Supernova make each other stronger.

Client work gives us exposure to industries, founders, business models, technologies, customers, and engineering problems that would be difficult to encounter inside a single company. Building our own products forces us to experience the consequences of product decisions directly.

The learning moves in both directions.

And as software development changes again through AI, increasingly capable models, agentic systems, and new ways of designing and engineering products, we think that combination becomes even more important. The ability to produce software is becoming faster and more accessible. The difficult part is increasingly deciding what deserves to be built, how it should work, where technology creates meaningful leverage, and how all of it translates into something customers genuinely value.

We are eight years into building Supernova this way, and the company continues to evolve with the technology and the products around us.

The tools will change. The types of products we build will change. The way software companies are created will almost certainly change.

But the underlying idea behind Supernova has become much clearer:

understand the problem deeply, make the important decisions early, build with conviction, learn from what happens in the real world, and carry those lessons into whatever we build next.

What’s Next?

The experience and knowledge we’ve gained building products for clients have laid the foundation for the products we are now building ourselves.

Our next major ambition is to grow Supernova Product Studio into a $1 billion+ venture by doing what we do best: building meaningful products that solve real problems, create lasting value, and have the potential to scale globally.

Our Mission

Build products that solve real problems, create lasting value, and make a transformative impact on the people and businesses that use them.

Develop and share the product thinking, engineering disciplines, operating principles, and new systems emerging from the evolution of technology and AI, so ambitious teams can validate better, build faster, and scale with confidence.

Supernovalabz Values

Supernova DNA

From the beginning, we’ve believed that the quality of the product depends on the quality of the thinking, the decisions, and the way the team works together. Over time, we’ve shaped a set of principles that guide how we research, design, engineer, communicate, and make decisions across every product we build.

AI Security Icon

01

Be better

There is always another level. Better thinking, better design, better engineering, better communication, better judgement. We challenge ourselves to improve the work rather than becoming comfortable with what already works.

Automation Icon

02

Fearless imagination

The best products rarely come from accepting the obvious answer. We give ourselves permission to think beyond existing patterns, challenge constraints, and imagine what could be possible before deciding what is practical to build.

AI Consulting Icon

03

Impact is everything

Activity is not the goal. Features are not the goal. Technology is not the goal. We care about what changes because of the work. Customer behaviour, adoption, revenue, growth, and meaningful value for the people using the product.

Training and Support Icon

04

Signature body of work

We want the products we build to represent the highest standard of our craft. Every project is an opportunity to create work we are proud to put our name behind and add something meaningful to the body of work we leave behind.

AI Security Icon

05

First-principles thinking

We do not accept assumptions simply because they are familiar or because an industry has always worked a certain way. We break problems down to what is actually true, understand the underlying constraints, and build our decisions back up from there.

Automation Icon

06

99% done is closer to 0% than 100%

Almost finished does not create value. A product that is designed but never launched, a feature that is built but unreliable, or a decision that is never executed has limited value. We finish what matters and take responsibility for getting the work across the line

Training and Support Icon

07

Speed → Momentum → Velocity

Speed matters when it compounds. We move quickly, learn from what happens, and use each completed decision and release to create momentum. Over time, that momentum becomes the velocity that allows teams and products to move much faster.

AI Consulting Icon

08

Ownership

We take responsibility for the outcome, not just the task assigned to us. Everyone should understand why the work matters, what success looks like, and how their decisions affect the customer, the product, and the business.

Training and Support Icon

09

Honesty

We say what we believe to be true, even when it is uncomfortable. If an idea is weak, a deadline is unrealistic, a technical decision creates unnecessary risk, or we simply do not know yet, we say so. Trust depends on clarity.

AI Security Icon

10

Respect and empathy

Great products and great teams require an understanding of people. We listen before assuming, challenge ideas without diminishing the person behind them, and treat clients, teammates, and users with respect.

Automation Icon

11

Grow without limits

Technology and product disciplines never stop changing, especially now with AI. We encourage people to expand beyond their title, learn adjacent disciplines, experiment with new tools, and continually improve their judgement.

AI Consulting Icon

12

Protect life outside work

Ambition should not require sacrificing everything else. We respect health, family, interests, and time outside work because sustained high-quality thinking depends on people having a life beyond the company.

How we think

Build the Right Thing Before Building More.

We believe great products usually start with better questions. Who is this really for? What problem matters enough to solve? Which assumptions are we treating as facts? What needs to be true for the product to work for the customer and as a business?

Those questions stay with us from the first conversation through launch, growth, and scale. We challenge assumptions early, use evidence to shape direction, and try to make the important decisions before more time, capital, and complexity are committed.

How we build

Stay Close to the Product. Stay Close to the Outcome.

We do not believe strategy should be separated from execution. The thinking that shapes the product should stay connected to the people designing it, engineering it, launching it, and learning from how customers actually use it.

That is why we stay involved across the full lifecycle, from discovery and MVP delivery to growth, scaling, and complex engineering. As the product evolves, we stay close to the customer, the data, the technology, and the commercial outcome so context is not lost between disciplines or stages.
